@punishmenthurts McLuhan sounds absurd, and I wish I could infodump on you that there is a lot more to what he is saying than he sounds.

I'm waiting on an autistics.life account right now because I'm over-verbose and redundant. But here goes because it seems I have to wait for a person to approve my account:

1. Marshall McLuhan sounds absurd to everyone, he knows that, and he is often playful with it
2. James Joyce's book Finnegans Wake is an essential part of McLuhan understanding

@punishmenthurts Finnegans Wake is the "real deal", James Joyce put 17 years into a 650 page book. And it is the final book in a series of books, but his most complex. Finnegans Wake is basically a history of all media in a WIki like expectation with a confrontation of The Bible, Quran, Upanishads, societies, etc.

Irish writer... Finnegans Wake was published in final form in 1938 and 30 years later Canadian 1968 McLuhan published "War and Peace in the Global Village" en.wikipedia.org/wi...

@punishmenthurts Now I was born in 1969.. and I got into social media on CB Radio at age 13 and then I had the idea of coding my own Reddit-like BBS social media app for Commodore home computers and sold it commercially mail-order at age 15. I then got a job at a Pentagon defense contractor at age 16 to learn operating systems (Digital VAX/VMS systems, same as my high school). I had no idea of my autism then. I was publishing IBM OS/2 academic books at age 21 from Fort Wayne, Indiana and got

@punishmenthurts an award from IBM (a huge Indianapolis 500 ceremony weekend, big budget) as a Social Media Ambassador. I kid you not, 1991 when I was 21. Then SAP, the largest software company in Germany hired me as a contractor at the Philadelphia USA headquarters and I moved away from medium-city Indiana - all without a college degree. I worked on a book about Microsoft's social media system in 1994 and got hired to work for Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen with film producer, sports teams,

@punishmenthurts and even a Jimi Hendrix museum development that is now the Pop Culture museum at the Seattle Space Needle. This was in the hayday of 1997 when Bill Gates was richest in the world, Warren Buffet second, and Paul Allen was third. They doubled their wealth in a single year in the Windows 95 to Windows 98 years. Allen had a media empire with the Seattle Seahawks, Portland Trailblazers, ESPN connections, Dreamworks film producer, Hollywood stars at his houses, jets, yachts.

3. So when McLuhan is interviewing John Lennon, he is talking to people with TRUE superstar experience. He isn't just a normal English Professor with a theory about James Joyce's books, he is getting validation to his theories from one of the biggest media acts in history.

4. I would also point to New York City's Howard Bloom about theories of "Mass Mind" + "Global Brain", he was a music publicist for bands like Styx, Billy Joel, Michael Jackson

Personally in 2009 I made

@punishmenthurts a prediction about the Arab Spring (or possibly elsewhere) a year before it became famous in December 2009. And I ended up traveling to Africa in December 2010 based largely on my own personal social media experience and Marshall McLuhan and Joseph Campbell's discussion of James Joyce's Finnegans Wake.

And I'm just an autistic nerd whose father managed a Pepsi canning plant in Indiana. I didn't go to any famous school or such, I just have experience of media empires and study.

Wow, that is quite a life, Holy Moley. Nobody is ever going to know I was even here. ❤️
.
Wow, Campbell too, I'm afraid, I read his series, and he too speaks as though the recent violent history of mankind were the Beginning, like nothing came before, and McLuhan just let that slip too in the video so I'm stopping for a bit - this is disqualifying for me, all that is the very newest version of humanity, it is not our origin.
.
I take it Eisler and the Chalice and the Blade never came up in your life?

@punishmenthurts You do know Campbell was a teacher at Sarah-Lawrence College, a woman's only university until 1968? He even married one of his own students, Jean Eardman, who was a dance creator who created a dance out of James Joyce's Finnegans Wake?
