Amazon is bringing back their staff to the office 5 days a week. A few predictions:
1. all big tech will follow suit
2. jobs that allow remote work will have a surge of applicants
3. a salary gap between in-person and remote jobs will come back

A friend of mine got laid off today… a Senior fullstack/Node.js developer now looking for a new job in the US. Happy to do the intro if anybody is hiring. I worked with him in the past and I can recommend.

I’m currently fighting an odd bug where two different majors of a module are loaded by typescript in a pnpm monorepo. This should not happen.
Is there a way to debug what files TypeScript is loading?

Good news: the @nodejs downloads reached an all-time high in August, when Node.js v20 finally surpassed Node.js v18!
Bad news: Node.js v16 still has major usage; go update, it has been out of LTS for a year!
Really bad news: who the heck is still using Node.js v14 and v12?

Finally it happened to me as well: developers complaining that the behavior of my OSS libraries does not match what ChatGPT explains to them. 🤦♂️

We set out to explore the state of SSR performance across today's most popular libraries, especially those that can be cleanly integrated with @fastifyjs.
So, what did we find? Let’s unpack these results🧵
TLDR; see diagram below.

@fastifyjs 1️⃣ Fastify-html delivered a whopping 975 requests per second in our tests.
This setup differs from all the others in that it doesn't require Vite, since no special syntax or transformations are required.

I’m a bit surprised that @npmjs has a backlog of months for processing dispute requests… which is generating individuals selling module names. 😭

A quick reminder that the Node.js project is run by volunteers. Quite a few of our decisions are based on the availability of volunteers to do the required work. Very often, showing up and helping goes a long way. Therefore, stop complaining and get to work.

Every now and then I receive a PR that removes tests and docs from modules I maintain. npm releases are (mostly) immutable, while github repos are not. If a repo disappears, you want to be able to fork it from your local copy.

Dev: I have a memory leak
Me: Does your process crash for an OutOfMemory error?
Dev: no
Me: Then you don’t have a memory leak
(There might be still a memory management issue, but that’s not a leak).
